Why you should be on our editorial calendar

 

 

Some people have said to me that they want articles at some time during the next few months but aren’t sure which date they want. That’s fine but I explain that it’s a good idea to get their name down on our editorial calendar as soon as they can if possible. Why?

Well, our editorial calendar at the moment  (I’m writing this in mid-September) is looking pretty full until the end of January, 2013 (which isn’t all that far away!) Of course, a website isn’t like a magazine with a limited number of pages. If you want an article on the 16th, it doesn’t really matter if we have other articles planned for that date – we can always fit you in. So again, why save a date?

To begin with, let’s look at the reasons why you might want a particular date. Maybe:

  • You have a boutique and you want to promote a forthcoming trunk show or sale
  • Your restaurant is launching a new menu or you have a new chef
  • Your gallery is representing a new artist who is having an open evening
  • Your business or organization want to promote an event
  • You are announcing a contest or sweepstakes

There are many more reasons why you might want a specific dates or a date in a particular range ‘the 14th, 15th or 16th will be fine’. The reason to book your date is that we have a strict editorial policy – we will not post articles about the same type of business on the same day. Wherever possible, we try to avoid having the same type of business within a three-day range.

For example, let’s say you have a restaurant. You want to promote a new menu on the 16th. If we have a restaurant post on the 16th then we are ‘booked’ restaurant-wise for that day. This is for your benefit. Remember that your article will go to:

  • Pinterest
  • Twitter
  • Facebook
  • Google +
  • Our online daily paper
  • Our Team Las Olas curation
  • Our social media hub
  • Our Events in Fort Lauderdale curation (if applicable)

You don’t want your message to be diluted by another restaurant going to all out tens of thousands of fans and followers on the same day. We are committed to supplying you with the best promotion – not one where another restaurant and its deals, specials or news will sit right alongside your own. Ideally, we would prefer not to have restaurant news on subsequent days too. You see, it depends on our article numbers for those days.  If restaurant A had an article on the 16th and restaurant B on the 17th they would still be uncomfortably close together. This applies to galleries, boutiques, events and so on too – we don’t want anyone to steal your limelight :)

It’s certainly not too early to be thinking about Thanksgiving or the holidays. In fact, it’s not too early to be thinking about Valentine’s Day, Easter or Mother’s Day either – be organized!
